Nature test / Quickscan Flora & Fauna

The nature test tells you whether there are vulnerable ecosystems (plants or animals) present in the research area that could be at risk due to the intended activities.

In the Netherlands, legal nature conservation can be subdivided into species protection and area protection. Both frameworks have been subject to the Nature Protection Act since 1 January 2017. The protection of nature areas focuses on the European system of Natura 2000 areas and the Netherlands Nature Network (NNN).

When activities are planned in or near an ecosystem, they are assessed for ecological effects by means of a nature test. First a literature research takes place. If this thris results in negative ecological effects, the impact is determined and consequently the necessary protective or compensatory measures. The granting of permits for the planned work depends, among other things, on the outcome of the nature test.
